Collection: Blue Sapphires (Neelam)

A variety of the Corundum group of minerals, blue sapphires are highly sought-after gemstones well revered by royalty and commoners alike for their vibrant-blue hues. These hues, typically ranging from a pale violet and purple to a deep rich blue, depend on the unique chemical composition of the sapphire – specifically, the trace amounts of iron and titanium present in the stone.

Blue sapphires are mined from a variety of locations around the world. Among the most popular origins are Thailand, Sri Lanka (erstwhile Ceylon), and Madagascar. Some of the most valuable blue sapphires, however, have originated from the Kashmir Valley in India where mining activities were permanently closed in 1887 - making these sapphires extremely rare and highly coveted.

In astrology, blue sapphires are associated with Saturn or Shani and are believed to offer protection from the ill-effects of the planet. It is also believed that wearing this stone helps align the wearer with the energies of Saturn – promoting discipline, responsibility, and focus, along with good fortune.
