The
hessonite is a cinnamon-coloured gemstone, part of the Garnet family of minerals. Although relatively less valuable than sapphires or emeralds, Hessonites are well-renowned for their metaphysical properties and are often worn for their astrological benefits. Their hues can range from a pale orange to a deep reddish-brown.
Hessonite mines are found in several locations including India, Africa, Thailand, and Sri Lanka. The Sri Lankan or Ceylonese mines, however, are known to produce some of the finest pieces with excellent colour saturation and transparency.
In astrology, hessonite garnets are associated with the shadow planet Rahu which, in turn, has connotations of secrecy, mystery, and illusion. As such, the Gomed is believed to provide its wearer with protection against negative energies causing confusion and psychological imbalance. It is also said to ensure speedy success in the wearer’s professional and personal endeavours.
