Like pearls,
red corals are organic gemstones formed by living marine organisms called coral polyps. Red corals are essentially the skeletons of these marine plants, are highly durable, and are often used in jewellery and other decorative items, in addition to astrology. These organic gemstones usually come in lighter orangish-red hues to deeper cherry-red shades.
Red corals are native to the Mediterranean Sea, and most are sourced from Italy. Other sources such as USA and Taiwan are also globally recognized. The rarest and finest red corals, however, are Japanese and are known for the distinct white veins visible on the surface of their cabochons.
Red corals are popularly associated with Mars in astrology. These stones are thought to balance and stabilise the energies of Mars, and are associated with prosperity and vigour. More specifically, red corals are believed to help improve the wearer’s career prospects, provide health benefits, and protect against negative influences.
