Collection: Chrysoberyl Cat's Eyes (Lahsuniya)

A variety of the Chrysoberyl species of minerals, cat’s eye stones are notable for their sharp chatoyance - a thin glowing line of light that moves along the surface of the stone when tilted, akin to the eyes of a cat. This particular effect is caused by parallel rutile inclusions within the stone, which reflect light in a specific way. The hues of this gemstone vary from black and grey, to greenish-yellow, and honey.

Although Chrysoberyl cat’s eyes are found in Brazil, Africa, and India – the best-known variety of this stone is found in Sri Lanka (formerly Ceylon). Sri Lankan cat’s eyes are known to be the finest variety – with sharp chatoyance effects found in the stones from this area.

In astrology, cat’s eyes are said to be associated with Ketu, which is the descending lunar node. This stone is famously believed to be a protector against all things evil and is said to shield its wearer from accidents, poverty, envy, and other such diabolical circumstances. In certain cultures, it is also said that the Cat’s Eye can aid one’s transition from materialism to spiritual upliftment.
